While the cost for this telescope by Sky-Watcher is greater than that of a reflector telescope of similiar aperture, it delivers the closest experience to actually being where human beings may ever know.

Turning the telescope to the first quarter Moon, the Appennine Mountains appear in focus and reveal mountain ridges, canyons, and numerous small craters in great detail. Focusing on Jupiter, it is possible to view its equatorial bands in high definition with festoons, and tonality with the bands. The great spot is clearly visible. Hunting down double stars like Epsilon Lyrae, and Alberio are also possible to get a good close view of. Alberio located in the tail of Cygnus never fails to please as it is a beautiful double star. Alberio appears like a gold sparkler and its companion looks blue-green.

Sky-Watcher's SW 100ED EQ5 PRO Telescope S11610 objective lenses are assembled to the industry's highest optical standards utilizing a front element of Grade-A Crown (BK7) glass free of striae and other image-degrading imperfections. The second element is formed from an exotic halide, calcium flourite, guaranteeing extreme low dispersion and excellent correction. The resulting design in the telescope exhibits very low residual color (secondary chromatic abberation) and produces the highest contrast images obtainable from an ED-APO of their class. Each lens set of the Sky Watcher telescope is individually pitch-polished, and hand figured by a master optician ensuring premium diffraction-limited optical performance that is second to none worldwide. All lenses are uniformly air-spaced. Each optical lens surface is coated with exotic anti-reflection metallic coatings (fully coated) to ensure the optimum light through-put. Four layers are applied to each surface (Magnesium Fluorite, MgF2, and Hafnium Dioxide, HfO2). The proprietary Sky-Watcher "Metallic High-Transmission Coatings" (MHC) are the finest light anti-rejection coatings in their class.

The objective lens of the SkyWatcher telescope cell is light-baffled to reject occasional, unfocused light. The draw tube is also baffled to insure extreme contrast. The tube's interior is flat blackened to help prevent unfocused internal light reflections from reaching the focal plane. The optical tube is aluminum, powder-coated reflective gloss black with gold fleck accent. The front and back cells are cast-aluminum painted black. Optical focus is achieved by means of a mechanically ultra-smooth, backlash-free, precision 2" Crayford rack & pinion focuser-assembly which includes course and fine focusing controls.
