Suitable for work with biohazards and other applications that require Biosafety level 1, 2, or 3 containment. May be used for work on agents that have been treated with small amounts of toxic chemicals or radionuclides. Protects the operator, the product, and the environment. Two HEPA filters are 99.99% efficient for all particles >=0.3µm, providing ISO Class 5 (FED-STD-209E Class 100/M3.5) conditions. Air drawn into the grille in the front of the cabinet provides a curtain of air, which prevents contaminants from escaping the work area and room air from entering the work area. HEPA-filtered air flows over the work area, providing a sterile environment and minimizing cross contamination.

One hundred percent of the contaminated air first goes through an exhaust HEPA filter and then through sealed ductwork to the outside. All contaminated air ducts are under negative pressure, an intrinsically safe design. A Minihelic* II pressure gauge, mounted at eye level, monitors internal pressure, indicating the condition of the HEPA filters to ensure proper operation. Spring-loaded filter clamps apply pressure evenly across the filters, minimizing the chance for leaks. A sash pocket contains potential contamination adhering to the interior side of the glass sash.

Cabinets are constructed of leak-tight Type 304 stainless steel and have a removable stainless steel work surface. The clear 0.6cm (1/4") safety glass sash is sloped at a 10° angle for comfortable viewing and pivots into three positions, from 20.3cm (8") to 45.7cm (18"). Two ADA-compliant polarized and grounded electrical duplex receptacles with ground fault interrupter and splash covers are located near the front of the cabinet, one on each side. Fluorescent lighting is standard. Front-mounted light and blower switches are ADA-compliant and convenient to reach. The internal blower features solid-state variable speed control and is sized for low power consumption.

An interlocking alarm system constantly monitors the volume of air exhausted from the cabinet. If exhaust air volume drops below an acceptable level, an audible alarm sounds, an alarm indicator light goes on, and the cabinet blowers stop. The alarm may be easily muted or reset from the control panel. This added measure of safety protects the operator from inadvertent exposure to aerosols.

All 115V safety cabinets are NSF, ETL, and ETL-C listed; 230V cabinets are NSF listed and CE marked.
