Coronado H-Alpha Filters for SolarMax Telescopes will allow you to view the active surface area of the sun. The H-Alpha filter by Coronado displays the sun at the H-Alpha wavelength (656nm), which lets viewers see flares and other surface activities that are not normally seen without the Ha filter. With the Coronado Ha Filter, you can see the sun change its shape within a couple of minutes. Images seen through a normal solar filter will only show you a bright disc with few sun spots. When you add a Coronado H Alpha Filter to your Coronado Solarscope, you will be immersed with unprecedented surface details, including plage, flares, filaments, prominences, and granulation.

Coronado H-Alpha Filters include a T-Max de-tuning device. Some events on the Sun, notably active flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are extremely fast moving. If such features occur on the disc of the Sun, their high velocity towards the observer results in their wavelength being Doppler shifted shorter than Ha. The T-Max allows the user to de-tune the SolarMax slightly to bring such phenomena into better visibility. The Coronado H-Alpha SolarMax Series Filters for the SolarMax 40, SolarMax 60, and SolarMax 90 are sold in sets. The set includes a front mounted SolarMax Filter and a rear Blocking Filter. The Coronado Ha Filters for the SolarMax 140 do not come with a blocking filter, which must be purchased separately.
