It goes without saying that birding binocular should be sharp, bright and clear, but all good birding binoculars have some other features as well. Birding is an activity that is often done at very close range, so any good birdwatching binocular should have a close focus of 15 feet or less, and 10 feet or less is even better. A birding binocular need not be waterproof, but that feature is a definite plus under tough conditions and it also adds to the lifespan of the binocular. If you wear eye glasses, a birding binocular with an eye relief of 15mm or more is also a must, but with so many birding binoculars with long eye relief available, that is seldom a problem these days. Special birding binocular series are developed by the top binocular manufactories - Swift Birding Binoculars, Steiner Merlin Binoculars, Audubon Binoculars, Bushnell NatureView Binoculars, Pentax Papilio, and many others
Here's a list of some of our best birding binoculars in every price range. All of these birdwatching binoculars can be used with or without eyeglasses and all will have the required close focus. Eight power models are listed (and a few with seven power), but most of these birding binoculars have a 10x version available for those who prefer that magnification. If you're new to binoculars and birding, though, most people find an 8x easier to steady and use than a 10x.
