The Z series consists of three models of mercury-free analyzers, each of which allows for variable, user-specified cell size settings and the capability of analyzing virtually all cell types and species variations. All units use the Coulter Principle (Electrical Sensing Zone Method) of counting and sizing cells. This proven method ensures accuracy, speed, versatility, and reproducibility in all applications. Standard apertures are available in five sizes and for very small sample volumes, ampule insertable apertures may be used.

The Z1 Single Threshold model permits the setting of one size threshold. Cells equal to or larger than this setting will be counted. This unit is ideal as a fully automated instrument for the rapid enumeration of both tissue culture and blood cells, as well as obtaining rapid total cell counts on cell lines containing uniformly sized cells. The Z1 Dual Threshold model counts cells or particles in three regions of the population; above the lower size, between the lower and upper thresholds, and above the upper size setting. This is ideal when cell numbers between a selected size range are required. The Z1 Dual Threshold model is designed for platelet applications and for working with numerous cell types of variable sizes. Both Z1 instruments incorporate an oil displacement pump which delivers a high degree of accuracy and precision, and eliminates the need for mercury. These units allow for absolute cell counts or concentration, storage of up to five analysis settings, and a constant current feature which eliminates calibration drift. Instruments are certified to ISO 90001 by NSAI Quality Assurance.

The Z2 Dual Threshold model shares the features of the Z1 Dual Threshold model, but adds the enhanced dimension of providing accurate poulation size distribution data. The Z2 displays the entire size distribution graph or the size statistics and counts between user-selectable areas of the graph. This unit has the ability to average counts and channelized data from a series of up to 10 consecutive analyses.

Available separately is the AccuComp* software package for quick and accurate calculation and presentation of sample data statistics from the Z2 unit. Software features include: size distribution statistics, data archiving, size trend analysis, result overlays, averages, graphs and tables, customizable reports, and data import/export capabilities.

Ordering Information: Each counter includes a 100µm aperture. Additional aperture tubes are available; contact your VWR representative for additional information. The Z Series Starter Kit (BK8320310) and Aperture Concentration Controls (BK177495) are necessary for setup and installation of all counters. The Z Series Starter Kit includes 1 Tri-Pak, 200 accuvettes, 2 sensors, 1 calibrator, 1 Coulter Clenz* cleaning agent, and 1 dispenser. The Z Series Tri-Pak is a package of three Z Paks, which are reagent packages containing instrument electrolyte solution and a waste container. The Standards Mixed Kit includes one each of 2, 5, 10, 20, and 43µL (5x15mL) solutions. The L1 Standard is a nominal 1µm latex particle (1x15mL).
